Be able to integrate their ideas with those of others using summary, paraphrase, quotation, analysis, and synthesis of relevant sources.
Example from Essay 2:
“Yet, I agreed with Yoshino when he talked about the possibility of legislation for covering in his writing piece “The New Civil Rights”. He had said “…I am troubled that Americans seem increasingly to turn toward the law to do the work of civil rights precisely when they should turn away from it. The real solution lies in all of us as citizens, not in the tiny subset of us who are lawyers” (Yoshino 459).”
Over the course of the semester, I was able to improve on the way that I am able to integrate quotes into my writing. I feel like before this course this is something I sort of struggled with. This example above is just one that showed my improvement from the second essay. Integrating quotes is important in order to have a strong essay. Not only does it make the writing sound more smooth, but it is also important to use others ideas to support your own. This way, integration is important in two ways in ones writing. The flow of a paragraph is equally important as the organization of ones evidence and own thoughts. It is important to integrate correctly as far as grammar proper quotation use. This is definitely a difficult part of writing to master and an important skill when using another person’s ideas or work. This course really challenged me to improve this in order to get good marks on my essays this semester.
